pump direction on this thing, can it be switched out in the field or do you have to send it back somewhere to get that done?

Field reversible is one of the built-in features on this pump, so no, you don't have to pull it and ship it off. You can reverse the direction right where it sits, which saves a fair amount of time when you're setting up or reconfiguring a system on-site.
