pump works on a reel mower and a fan drive both? or is it better suited for one over the other

Fixed displacement external gear pumps like this one handle both those applications without issue. The Series 26 line is specifically rated for rotary and reel mowers as well as fan drive systems, so running it in either setup is well within its intended use. No need to choose one over the other.
