pump says it's field reversible, how hard is that actually to do out in the shop?

Reversing the pump direction is built to be done without pulling it off the machine or sending it out. The design supports field reversal, so a mechanic with reasonable hydraulic experience can handle it on-site. It's not a tear-down job.
