So this gear pump, is it somethin' that could work on say, a mower?

pump says it's field reversible - how hard is that to actually do on the job, and do you need special tools for it?

Reversing the rotation on this pump is meant to be done in the field without a lot of fuss. The design supports it as a built-in feature, so you're not cracking anything open or sending it back somewhere. Most techs can handle it with standard hand tools during a normal service window.
