runs real quiet compared to some older gear pumps i've used, or is that more of a marketing claim?

Reduced noise and vibration is actually a built-in design feature of the Series 26, not just a sales line. External gear pumps in general can be pretty loud, so Eaton put real engineering effort into smoothing that out on this series. If you're running it in a cab environment or anywhere noise matters, that improvement is legitimate.

Reckon this gear pump would hold up okay in a tractor that sees some pretty hard use out in the fields?

Designed for tractors and harvesters, this Series 26 gear pump is also suitable for machine tools, steering circuits, and other heavy duty applications. It should definitely hold up to the demands of field work.
