Can this gear pump handle cold weather starts without issues?

It's rated for a minimum working temperature of -20°C, so it should perform reliably even when it's pretty cold out.

pump says field reversible, does that mean I can flip the rotation direction myself out in the shop without sending it back somewhere?

That's what it means. The Series 26 is built so the rotation direction can be changed in the field without any special tooling or factory involvement. That's a real practical advantage when you're fitting it into a circuit that runs opposite of what the standard configuration expects. Saves time and keeps the job moving.
