pump works on both directions or do I have to spec that out when ordering?

Field-reversible direction is built right into this pump, so you can swap rotation without sourcing a separate unit. That kind of flexibility comes in handy when you're fitting it into a circuit that wasn't originally laid out for a specific flow direction, or when you're retrofitting an existing machine.

Reckon this'll work on my old tractor? It's a bear to steer sometimes.

For tractors where steering is a problem, this Danfoss / Eaton Series 26 gear pump can certainly help, since it's often used in steering circuits. Its improved efficiency should give you better control.
