this pump field reversible out of the box, or do you have to buy a separate kit to swap the rotation?

Field reversibility is built into this pump, no separate kit required. You can change the rotation direction without swapping out the unit entirely, which saves real time when you're fitting it into equipment that runs the opposite direction from what you originally planned for.
