pump says it's field reversible -- does that mean I can just swap the rotation on it myself out in the shop, or is that something that needs special tooling?

Field reversible means you can change the rotation direction without sending it back or swapping the whole unit out. It's set up to be reconfigured on site, which is handy when you're dealing with different circuit layouts or swapping it into a machine that runs the opposite direction from what you originally planned. No special factory tooling required for that.

This Series 26 gear pump is indeed applicable for tractors, as well as harvesters. It's also listed as suitable for steering circuits and auxiliary work circuits on other equipment.
