runs quiet compared to other gear pumps i've used, but is that actually a design feature or just marketing talk?

Reduced noise and vibration is a built-in design feature of the Series 26, not just a talking point. External gear pumps can get loud under load, so Eaton/Danfoss put real engineering work into keeping this one quieter than typical units in its class. If you've dealt with noisy pumps rattling around in a cab or near an operator station, that difference matters in day-to-day use.
