Reckon this would be alright for steering on my old tractor?

pump says it's field reversible, what does that actually mean for someone swapping it into a machine that runs the opposite rotation from the factory setup?

Rotation direction on gear pumps matters a lot for proper oil flow and internal lubrication. Field reversible just means you can reconfigure this pump to run either clockwise or counterclockwise without sending it back to a shop or ordering a different unit. For a swap where the drive shaft spins the opposite direction from what your old pump expected, that flexibility saves real time and avoids sourcing a separate model altogether.
