This pump say it can run in reverse direction, is that something you can do yourself out in the field, or does it have to go back to a shop to get reconfigured?

Field reversible means just that. You can swap the pump direction without pulling it and sending it somewhere. It's built to allow that kind of adjustment on-site, which is a real time saver when you're running equipment that needs to be reconfigured between jobs or seasons.
