pump says it's field reversible, what does that actually mean for somebody swapping it into a different machine?

Rotation direction on this pump can be changed without replacing the unit itself. So if the machine you're dropping it into runs the pump shaft the opposite direction from your previous setup, you're not stuck buying a different pump. That flexibility makes it useful across a wider range of equipment without a lot of extra hassle during the swap.
