pump says it's field reversible, what does that actually mean for someone swapping it into a machine that runs the opposite rotation from what I've got now?

Reversing the pump direction on this unit can be done in the field without sending it back or special tooling. If the machine you're dropping it into runs opposite to your current setup, you can reconfigure the rotation on-site during installation. That kind of flexibility matters when you're working across different equipment that wasn't all spec'd the same way.

Will this gear pump work okay in cold weather? We get some pretty harsh winters here.

It is rated down to a minimum working temperature of -20°C, so it should hold up well in cold climates or outdoor settings.
