pump direction on this thing, can you actually flip it in the field or do you need to send it back somewhere to get that done?

Field-reversible is one of the built-in features on this pump, so you can change the rotation direction without pulling it from service and shipping it out. That kind of flexibility is real handy when you're fitting it into an existing setup that's already got a fixed drive direction you have to work around.
