got a machine that needs a quiet gear pump, is this one built to cut down on the racket?

pump says it's field reversible -- how hard is that to actually do out in the field, or is it more of a shop job?

Reversing the rotation on this pump is genuinely meant to be done without sending it back to a shop. The Series L2 is built so the direction can be swapped in the field, which makes it practical for equipment that gets reconfigured or when a replacement ends up being plumbed opposite from the original. You won't need special tooling or a rebuild to make that change.
