what's the material on this plug and how's it hold up to rust and corrosion out in the field?

Carbon steel construction with Dura-Kote plating, which gives it noticeably better corrosion resistance than standard uncoated plugs. That plating is the main reason this one holds up better in wet or harsh environments where bare steel would start showing wear a lot sooner.
