looking to replace a fitting on a hydraulic line that runs from a #8 JIC hose end over to a #12 male pipe port, this 90 degree elbow the right piece for that?

Yeah, that's exactly what this fitting is built for. It connects a #8 male JIC on one end to a #12 male pipe thread on the other, with a 90-degree bend between them. If your hose end is female JIC and the port you're threading into is female pipe, this will mate up right. The fixed 90-degree angle is handy when you've got tight routing and need to change direction without adding extra fittings in the line.
