trying to swap out an elbow on a line, is this one the JIC flare to NPTF kind or am i lookin at the wrong thing

Youve got the right style if you need a 90 degree elbow with male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on one end and male NPTF on the other. The JIC side is 9/16-18 (SAE J514) and the NPTF side is 3/8-18 (SAE J476).

Got a fitting that needs a 37-degree flare on one end and pipe thread on the other, does this brass elbow cover both of them in a 90-degree turn?

Yeah, that's exactly what this one does. One end is a male JIC SAE 37-degree flare at 9/16-18, and the other end is male NPTF at 3/8-18. So if you're routing a JIC line into a port that takes pipe thread and you need to make that 90-degree turn without adding extra fittings, this adapter handles it in one piece. Both thread types are forged into the brass, so it's a solid connection on both sides.
