trying to hook up a JIC line to a pipe thread port at a 90, is this the right kind of elbow?

For that setup, it matches a male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on one end and a male NPTF on the other, arranged as a 90 degree elbow. The JIC side is 9/16-18 (SAE J514) and the NPTF side is 1/4-18 (SAE J476).

What's the deal with the ends on this thing? I need to hook it up to something with JIC and NPTF fittings.

This elbow adapter has a Male JIC SAE 37 Degree Flare on one side and a Male NPTF on the other. It's made to give you a solid connection between those two types of fittings.

what thread types are on each end of this fitting? trying to figure out if it'll work in my setup before I order

One end is a 9/16-18 Male JIC SAE 37 Degree Flare, which follows SAE J514. The other end is a 1/4-18 Male NPTF, built to SAE J476. So if your system has a JIC female on one side and a NPTF female port on the other, this elbow connects them at a 90 degree angle.
