Will this reducer work with standard JIC fittings?

Yes, this straight reducer features a Female JIC SAE 37-degree flare on one end and a Male JIC SAE 37-degree flare on the other, which are standard JIC fittings.

got a hose with a -12 female JIC, and i need to step it down to -6 male JIC. is that what this reducer does?

For adapting between JIC flare sizes, this part goes from a Female JIC SAE 37 degree flare on the B1 end with 1-1/16-12 threads to a Male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on the B2 end with 9/16-18 threads. It is a straight reducer built to SAE J514.
