got a hose with a 6 JIC male on it. is this the piece that’ll let me screw into a 3/8-18 nptf port?

Function-wise, yes. One end is a Male JIC SAE 37 degree flare with 9/16-18 threads (SAE J514), and the other end is a Female NPTF with 3/8-18 threads (SAE J476), so it adapts between those two connection types.
