got a hose end that’s 24 JIC male, will this adapter screw right onto it and then give me a 24 NPTF male on the other side?

Function-wise, it is a straight adapter that goes from a Male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on one end to a Male NPTF on the other. The thread sizes are 1-7/8-12 for the JIC side and 1-1/2-11-1/2 for the NPTF side, so it matches those exact connections.

What kind of thread setup does this adapter have on each end, and will it work connecting a JIC line to an NPT port?

One end carries a 1-7/8-12 Male JIC SAE 37 Degree Flare thread, and the other end has a 1-1/2-11-1/2 Male NPTF thread. So yeah, it bridges a JIC flare line to an NPTF port without any additional fittings in between. The JIC side conforms to SAE J514 and the NPTF side to SAE J476, both standard specs in hydraulic hydraulic connections.

That's right, this is a straight adapter. It has Male JIC SAE 37 Degree Flare threads on one side and Male NPTF threads on the other, conforming to SAE J514 and SAE J476 specifications.
