got a hose with a -20 JIC female on both ends. is this the straight piece that’ll join them?

Function-wise, yes. It is a straight adapter with male JIC SAE 37 degree flare on both ends, and both sides are 1-5/8-12 threads (SAE J514), so it mates to -20 JIC female swivel ends.
