Does this fitting work with standard 1/4 inch push lock hose, or do I need something special to get it to seat right?

Push lock barb end accepts standard 1/4 inch push lock hose. Just push the hose fully onto the barb until it seats and you're good. The male JIC end is a 7/16-20 thread with a 37 degree flare, so make sure the mating port or fitting on the other end matches that spec before you torque it down.

got a push-lock hose with a 1/4 barb on it. will this screw right onto a 7/16-20 male JIC port?

On the hose side, it’s a 1/4 push lock hose barb. On the threaded side, it’s a 7/16-20 male JIC SAE 37 degree flare, made to SAE J514. That means it threads into a matching female JIC 7/16-20 flare connection.
