trying to hook up a push-lock hose to a 1/4 NPT port. is this the right fitting or am i off a size

For a 1/4-18 male NPTF connection, this one matches that thread size and uses the SAE J476 standard. The hose side is a 1/4 push lock hose barb built to ISO 12151, so it’s meant for a push-lock hose connection on that end.

Does the push lock barb end on this fitting need any clamps or extra hardware to hold the hose on, or does it just press in and stay put?

Push lock barb fittings are built to grip and hold without clamps. You push the hose onto the barb end and the internal retention keeps it seated. That said, make sure your hose inner diameter matches the 1/4-inch barb size so you get a proper seal. A loose or oversized hose won't hold the way it should.
