Does this cylinder need any kind of adjustment or control setup once it's installed, or does it pretty much just bolt in and run?

No electrical hookups, no remote controls, and no adjustment needed on the end. It runs purely on mechanical function, so once it's in place you're good to go. Keeps things simple, especially when you don't want extra components in the system to troubleshoot later.
