what industries is this adapter actually rated for, or is it more of a general-purpose fitting?

Carbon steel construction with Dura-Kote plating puts this one in some pretty demanding territory. It carries ratings for marine and military use, chemical processing, pulp and paper, food and beverage, and offshore drilling. That corrosion-resistant finish is doing real work in those environments, especially anywhere moisture or chemical exposure is a regular part of the job.

got a hose end that’s -12 JIC 37 flare and i need to turn it into 3/4 npt. is this the right elbow?

For that hookup, it matches what you’re describing. It is a 90° elbow adapter with a 3/4 male NPTF on one end and a -12 male SAE 37° (JIC 37° flare) on the other.
