Filling the motor with fluid before applying any load is the first step. You will then want to run the unit for about an hour at 30 percent of its rated pressure. That short break-in period helps ensure the longest possible lifespan before you put it to heavy use.

got a mower swing motor setup, are these ports the o-ring kind and what thread are they?

Port-wise, it uses SAE O-ring ports with 7/8-14 UNF-2B straight threads, and the ports are staggered.

does this motor need a case drain line, or can it handle back pressure on its own?

Up to 2000 PSI, the motor handles case pressure without a case drain. Once you're running continuous back pressure above that threshold, you'll need to run an external case drain line and make sure it's plumbed so the motor case stays full of fluid at all times. That's a hard limit worth keeping in mind before you spec it into a high back pressure circuit.

got a mower setup that takes a 2-bolt SAE A mount and a 1 inch straight keyed shaft. is this motor that exact combo?

It matches that hardware: a 2 bolt SAE A mounting flange and a 1 in straight keyed shaft. Porting on this unit is 7/8-14 straight thread SAE O-ring ports, so your hoses or adapters need to match that style too.

What kind of hydraulic fluid should I be using in this motor?

Premium quality, anti-wear type hydraulic fluid is recommended for this motor. You'll want to make sure your fluid viscosity is a minimum of 70 SUS at operating temperature.
