got a 3/4 nptf male port on a valve body, is this the adapter that’ll get me over to a 45 degree SAE male flare?

It’s a straight adapter that goes from a 3/4 NPTF male pipe thread on one end to an SAE 45° male flare on the other, with both ends being male.

does this adapter go from pipe thread on one end to a 45 flare on the other, or am I reading that wrong?

That's right. One end is 3/4 NPTF male pipe thread, and the other is a 12 SAE 45 degree male flare. So if you're connecting a pipe-threaded port to a 45 degree flare fitting line, this is the straight adapter that bridges those two standards without needing extra pieces in between.
