What size reduction is this bushing actually handling, and is it a threaded fitting or what?

It steps down from 1 inch to 3/4 inch, and yes, it's threaded. The hex shape on the outside gives you a flat surface to grab with a wrench, which makes fitting it into tight spots a lot easier than dealing with a round body. Malleable iron construction means it holds up to the kind of torque you'd put on it during installation without cracking or warping on you.
