what's the corrosion protection like on this fitting? running equipment outdoors and rust has been a real problem with some of the cheaper stuff we've used before

Aeroquip uses a finish called Dura-Kote plating on this fitting, which is their approach to keeping corrosion from becoming an issue over time. Carbon steel fittings without a solid protective coating don't hold up well in wet or exposed conditions, so the plating is doing real work here. It's part of why this line gets used in demanding environments where longevity of the hose assembly matters.
