Overcenter or counterbalance valves are used to control and hold a load by regulating flow into and out of a hydraulic actuator. When the valve is installed close to or within the actuator, it can help stop runaway in a hose burst situation and it also allows thermal expansion relief when you are using open center directional control valves.

It requires a C-10-3S cavity housing, which is sold separately and not included with the cartridge. The housing has to be machined or sourced to match that spec before you can install the valve. Once you've got the right cavity, torque the cartridge in to 33 ft-lbs and you're set. Mounting position doesn't matter, so you've got flexibility there.
