316 stainless has a higher molybdenum content compared to the more common 304 grade, and that difference is meaningful in wet or chemically aggressive environments. For hydraulic fittings that see exposure to moisture, saltwater, or corrosive fluids, 316 holds up considerably better over time. Regular stainless can still pit and rust under those conditions. If your application stays dry and clean, the difference matters less. But anywhere there's real corrosion risk, 316 is worth it.
