trying to swap out an elbow on a -4 hose, is this one set up for a 1/2 inch female SAE 37?

It’s built with a 0.5 inch female SAE 37 end, and it’s matched up for a -4 hose dash size. The other end is meant for line, hose, or tube connections, so it’s used as a general-purpose swivel elbow in those setups.

does this fitting hold up alright in applications where you got hose shock to worry about? seen some fittings crack out pretty quick in those situations

For general low and medium pressure hydraulic work, this elbow handles it fine. That said, if shock hazards are a real concern in your setup, Aeroquip actually points toward using H277 or H435 hose with it rather than standard hose. Pairing the right hose to the fitting is what keeps the assembly from wearing out ahead of schedule.
