got a truck-mounted winch that keeps chewing through motors under side load, will this one hold up any better with that reinforced shaft seal and extended bearing setup?

Side load stress is exactly what the bearing and seal upgrades on this motor are built around. The extended bearing life design and reinforced shaft seal work together to handle the kind of radial stress that shows up in winch applications where the cable pull isn't perfectly inline. Cast iron construction adds to that durability, so it's not going to flex or fatigue the way lighter housings can under sustained load cycles.
