both ends are M20 x 1.5 DIN tube, right? just want to make sure this ain't one of those fittings where one side's different

Correct on both counts. Each side is an M20 x 1.5 male DIN tube connection, S12 size, so you're getting a true straight-through union with matching ends. No mixed thread or size surprises here.

got a DIN tube setup with S12 ends, is this union the straight male to male piece or am i lookin at the wrong thing

Built as a straight-through DIN tube union, it connects DIN tube ends with male threads on both sides. Both ends are M20 x 1.5 with the S12 size, so it is a male-to-male DIN tube connection.
