fitting don't need any thread tape or solder to seal up right? just the compression sleeve does all the work?

Correct on both counts. The compression mechanism handles the seal on its own. When you tighten the fitting, the ferrule or sleeve compresses against the tubing and creates a leak-tight joint without any sealant or soldering involved. That's actually one of the main reasons these get used in instrumentation and control line work where you want a clean, repeatable connection.
