Does the Dura-Kote plating on this plug actually hold up in wet or corrosive environments, or is that more of a marketing claim?

Carbon steel on its own would rust out pretty quick in wet conditions, but the Dura-Kote plating is specifically there to address that. It gives the plug a meaningful layer of corrosion resistance that makes it suitable for harsh industrial environments, not just clean shop setups. It's a real protective finish, not a cosmetic one.

Will this plug work with standard hydraulic fittings, or do I need something special?

This Danfoss/Eaton plug assembly is made to exceed SAE standards, so it should integrate well into existing hydraulic setups. The 0.375-inch end size gives you some flexibility, too.
