what thread size is the male end on this fitting, is it 1/8 NPT?

the male end is 1/8 NPTF. The female side connects to 1/4 inch line, hose, or tube. So you've got a 90 degree elbow that steps down between those two sizes, which comes in handy when you're working in a tight spot and need to change direction without a lot of extra fittings in the way.

i'm trying to replace an elbow on a small nylon compression line. is this the 90 degree adapter with a 1/4 female tube end and 1/8 NPTF male on the other side?

This part is a line or tube female end in 0.25 size on one side, and a 0.125 NPTF male end on the other, built as a 90° elbow adapter.

Will this nylon elbow hold up okay if I'm runnin' hydraulic lines outside?

Nylon provides good resistance to corrosion, which should help with outdoor use. However, keep in mind that this elbow is made of nylon, so it might not be the best choice for extreme temperature or pressure conditions.
