what's this made out of, and is it gonna hold up alright in a corrosive environment?

Molded nylon is the base material, and the fittings carry a Dura-Kote plating specifically put there to handle corrosion. That combination gives it better staying power in harsh conditions than a lot of standard-grade connectors you'd run across.
