Is this nut plastic? Description just says molded nylon, wanted to make sure.

That's correct, this compression nut is made from molded nylon.

Is this the compression nut that goes with the 1561X series fittings, or do I need something different for that application?

this part is built specifically for the Danfoss and Eaton 1561X series, so if you're working with that fitting family, this is the one you want.
