Product Questions & Answers

Wondering if this high/low pump would be a good fit to replace the worn out one on my log splitter?
Question by: Bobby S on Jul 16, 2025, 5:42 PM
This GC high/low pump is designed for hydraulic systems needing two-stage flow, giving you high flow at low pressure for rapid cylinder movement and then switching to low flow at high pressure when the workload kicks in. It’s all about cutting down cycle times and boosting energy efficiency in those heavy-duty hydraulic setups, so it could be a solid choice for a log splitter.

What's the point of a high/low pump setup versus just running a single-stage pump the whole time?
Question by: Vince W on Sep 6, 2025, 7:46 AM
Two-stage flow delivery splits the job into phases. When a cylinder is moving fast with little resistance, the pump pushes high volume at low pressure to get things there quick. Once the load kicks in and pressure rises, it automatically shifts to low flow at high pressure to do the actual work. Running a single-stage pump means you're either giving up speed or wasting energy pushing fluid at high pressure the whole cycle. The high/low setup cuts cycle times and pulls less energy during the rapid-travel portion, which adds up fast in a busy hydraulic circuit.

got a cylinder that moves quick till it hits the load, then it needs some real pressure. is that what this pump is meant for?
Question by: Glen W on Dec 6, 2025, 3:44 PM
In a two stage setup like that, the high flow stage handles rapid cylinder movement at low pressure, then it shifts to a low flow stage that can build higher pressure once the work load comes on. That combination is meant to cut cycle time and avoid wasting energy when you do not need high pressure yet.
