trying to replace a worn out coupler on an air line, is this the right style for the regular industrial interchange stuff?

For standard shop style quick disconnects, this one matches the US Industrial Interchange pattern and complies with A-A-59439. It is also certified to ISO 6150 Series B, so it lines up with that common interchange family.

does this socket work with standard air line fittings or do I need something specific on the other end

Buna-N seals and a ball lock connection are what hold this coupling together, and the mating end runs a 3/8-18 NPTF thread. NPTF is a dry-seal pipe thread, so you'll want the fitting or port on the other end to match that spec. It's a female half, meaning it's the socket side of the coupling pair, not the plug. As long as your existing line or equipment uses a compatible NPTF male port in that size, it threads right in without any special tools.
