pump says it runs 50% quieter, is that actually noticeable in a shop environment or is that just marketing talk?

In a working shop, yeah, you can tell the difference. The PVM Series was specifically engineered to cut noise output in half compared to standard piston pump designs, so it's not just a number on a spec sheet. For use running injection molding equipment or conveyor lines where pumps are running most of the shift, that reduction adds up in a real way. It won't make the machine silent, but side by side with a conventional pump, the drop is noticeable enough that operators tend to comment on it.
