What's the overall length of this fitting?

It measures 65mm in overall length (L1) and 26mm for the secondary length (L2).

What exactly is this adapter doing, connection-wise? I got a DIN metric tube fitting on my hydraulic line and need to tie into a 1-1/2 inch NPT port on a valve block.

That's exactly the transition this piece handles. One end accepts a female DIN tube fitting with an M52 x 2.0 thread, designated L42. The other end is a male 1-1/2 inch NPTF thread at 11.5 threads per inch, which seats directly into a standard NPT port. Steel construction throughout, straight configuration, so there's no angle to account for during routing.
