Controls the flow and pressure characteristics coming out of the pump. On piston pump systems, the control valve is what regulates how the pump responds to load demand, so getting the right one matters for how the whole system behaves under work conditions. This is a genuine Danfoss Power Solutions part, part number 103334-000, so it's not an aftermarket substitute.
