what kind of connection does this fitting use on the hose end, and does it need a special crimp machine to go on?

Hose end goes on with a standard crimp process, so you'll need compatible crimping equipment to set it properly. The other end is a female swivel with a JIS 30 flare parallel pipe thread, which is a connection type common in equipment built to Japanese Industrial Standards. Worth knowing that this fitting is sized for dash 6 hose, so make sure your hose matches that before ordering.
