what hose dash size does this fitting work with, and is it meant for regular everyday hydraulic lines or something more heavy duty?

For general purpose low and medium pressure hydraulic systems, the 04E-B44 is built around a -4 dash size hose. If your application involves shock hazards or high-impulse conditions, you'd want to look at H277 or H435 hose instead. This one is a solid workhorse for standard duty setups where those extremes aren't a factor.
