valve's rated for 40 LPM -- that enough flow for a press application or is that gonna be cutting it close?

For press applications, 40 liters per minute is right in the working range this valve was built for. Press is actually one of the listed application types alongside die casting, machine tools, and a handful of others. Whether that flow ceiling fits your specific circuit depends on your system design, but the rating itself isn't a limitation for general press use.
